Strangers and Aliens Conference Programme

This exhibit offers a summary of all conference presentations and discussion, based on in-the-moment write-ups by members of the Toronto Dutch Courtesan project team. Any errors in paraphrasing are ours. Expanded and revised versions of the full talks will be published in a special Issues in Review for Early Theatre in June 2020 (23.1), to be made open-access by 2021.*

These pages offer the opportunity to see work in development. They additionally include a record of our Performance Workshop and Director's Talk, which will note be included in ET 23.1.

*Please note Early Theatre has temporarily made all content open access to facilitate research during the COVID-19 crisis.

Production postcard

In the winter of 2019, The Dutch Courtesan 2019 project team collaborated with Poculi Ludique Societas (PLS) and the Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies (CDTPS) at the University of Toronto to stage a production of John Marston’s The Dutch Courtesan. The production was the centre of the ‘Strangers and Aliens in London and Toronto: Sex, Religion, and Xenophobia in John Marston’s The Dutch Courtesan conference on 22-23 March 2019. In this exhibit you can learn more about our audiences and networks, the Oxford Dutch Courtesan edition, and 'modern' Marston. Plus: view our production photos and our currently posted production videos.
